Yoga For Pain Relief – Introducing You To The Practice

More and more people everyday are turning to yoga for pain relief whether it is for a physical condition they are working through or an emotional one. Why is yoga becoming increasingly popular in recent years when it has been around for thousands of years? I believe the answer is simple and those who begin a yoga practice might tell you the same thing: yoga allows you to be you.

Only You Know What You Need

It doesn’t matter where you go nowadays someone is always trying to convince you to listen to them because they know best and telling you what you are supposed to buy or who you are supposed to be.  On rare occasions you might pick up on something that has some value to you but for the most part it is just noise.

In reality, the only person who knows exactly what you should be doing is you.  It might sound simple and you’ve probably heard it a million times before but allow yourself a minute to really let that sink in.

The only person who knows exactly what you should be doing is you.

Your Voice

I tried for too many years to exercise the way society thought that I should exercise because I made the mistake of believing that they knew what was better for me than I did. After years of trying to stick to a gym routine or the latest workout made for DVD program I would do really well for about six months and then would either get bored of the same routine or frustrated that the gym was always full.

All through my search for a way to exercise that I could actually stick with, my chronic lower back pain that I’d been struggling with since I was 15 only continued to get worse.

Sound Familiar?

Good. You can now stop listening to what everyone else is telling you about how you are supposed to exercise and start to listen to how your own body is asking you to exercise.

If you are giving yoga a try then I’m guessing that you have also tried just about every other type of workout out there and nothing has really stuck.  Keep being open to the practice and let your body tell you what you need to do.  And I don’t mean that figuratively, I mean actually feel where your body is fighting back with pain and let your breath allow your mind to take control.

This is where the healing begins.
