I also didn’t know anything about what I should be looking for in a mat or where to even begin so I bought one based on price alone. If you are thinking the same thing then I would recommend taking a look at this mat. You don’t want to go much more lower in cost as your practice will suffer needlessly due to lack of quality.
The very first mat that I purchased was this Gaiam Solid Premium Yoga Mat. When I began doing Yoga I was still very skeptical about how long I would actually stick with it so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money at first.
For the price this mat is everything that you will need to start your practice and will actually endure a good amount of resistance before starting to show signs of wear and tear. If this mat starts to fall apart on you then that probably means you’ve been practicing hard for a while and are wanting a new mat that fits your specific needs anyways.
